Elegy For The Principal

 Winter fell so slowly

And, so cruel was it’s fall

Spreading silently, like inkblots of poison in the blood

Or cancers biting at the bod.

It rustled through the land.

And we who watched from here across

Saw nothing but the smile of autumn leaves

The august stature of the trees

The faithful voice of burdened breeze.

We Mistook strength for ease.

We mistook the autumn for the spring

The battle for the victory

The martyr for a king.

And then one day we heard, you and I

The steel cold lament of the wind

It’s soulless bite announcing that

Winter had set upon the land.

And winter rules and winter stays.

Or so it seemed, or so it seemed

Until like morning after dream

Once more sweet with memory

Ladden in melody

Springtime came to bloom and we heard that voice resound
